Week 5: Finished!

Ugh, I am sick of “make a pretty dress” challenges.  I deviated from my sketch out of boredom and nearly ennui’d myself into sewing a shit pile.  No more zippers ever.  Is that okay?  After this any pretty dress challenge is going to get the sewing equivalent of cold connections.  Here’s my pattern plot for the dress.  I didn’t even thumbnail sketch the changed idea, I just went straight to the pattern, as is my normal way of doing things: So, eye catching and spring.  How’s pink and bright blue? …

Week 5: Setup/Sketch

The challenge this week was to make a dress that would be worn by Heidi Klum for April 2010 cover of Marie Claire.  Designers were reminded that it’s three seconds for a consumer to see and decide whether to buy an issue at the news stand, so the dress had to be eye-catching. Can I make a confession?  I do not think I’ve ever read Marie Claire.  It’s rated in my mind as like, a hip mom fashion mag.  I read W for my pretty picture needs and I think…
