Focus month: Photography

Okay, new month, new focus. You may know that my partner is a photojournalist (and has been the photo department of the weekly he works at for almost six and half years), but you might not know that I very nearly went to school to do the same thing. I was super active in the newspaper in high school, we had a 12-16 page weekly (with spot colour!) and I was one of the two photographers. I job shadowed with the Oregonian, who dropped me like a hot stone when…

Focus month: nails

This month is my birthday month, so the focus is going to be something I am so all about: nails. Sometime between 2006-ish, when I was still scared of the makeup aisle and spent evenings pretending I wasn’t following white rabbit hyperlinks about drag, false lashes, makeup and hair falls to the summer of 2009 when I started painting my nails about once a week (though I didn’t start doing it regularly each week for a while), I got over it. “It” being my gender presentation and self-perception. Primarily it’s “sewing for the home”, but there’s auxiliary…

Month of Writing: Finished

So. The grand experiment seems to be working. For the month of January I focused on writing, with a few specific goals, allowing myself to not worry about not doing All The Things (and therefore not getting distracted). Because of my stunning lack of real self-confidence I didn’t share my goals for the month beforehand, but here’s what I accomplished this month: Posted four short stories that had been sitting gathering dust. Re-read (after the perfect amount of away time) and edited those stories. In Search for the King It’s…
