A gnome and a knight

I just recently realised that I never linked/shared the videos I was working on that I posted about last month. I am: notoriously bad at remembering to share what I’m doing and what I’ve done (this is why I have journal and planner processes that involve me logging what I’ve done, from small task to big project, I just… then don’t convey that beyond my planners). Anyway!

This video originally had Steppenwolf’s “The Pusher” playing over it. Well, not over it so much as “in the same room, from a distance.” It was made probably slightly before I figured out how to hook a stereo to the camcorder or VCR and overdub music. So I had to make a new song, because: copyrights. I love that the cast for this is just: who was on hand. I didn’t really collect specific toys beyond “droids and bounty hunters from Star Wars, if they’re cheap,” so there’s a bit of a Mos Eisley vibe that was deeply unintentional. They’re just Guys.

In editing this video I learned about colour correction, oooh. I by the end of its time, the camcorder was very susceptible to the white balance freaking out and the resulting video, especially after assorted tape transfers and time, oscillated between “fine” and “deeply orange-cast.” But! Fixed it mostly. Bendable wax sticks were very fun to stop-motion with. Stop motion on the camcorder was being well-timed with the record button and I could never get it wildly smooth, but I think it works.

There! Now I have shared the videos here. You’ll note they both start with a, what is it, a vanity card. I pulled it from the depths of one of the many VHS I’d transferred.

There’s one more I’m working on but it involves rotoscoping, which is fun but takes one million years. Yay for finishing projects (I can, in theory, now properly archive these files), yay for still finding joy in old projects.
