Month of Writing: Finished

So. The grand experiment seems to be working. For the month of January I focused on writing, with a few specific goals, allowing myself to not worry about not doing All The Things (and therefore not getting distracted). Because of my stunning lack of real self-confidence I didn’t share my goals for the month beforehand, but here’s what I accomplished this month: Posted four short stories that had been sitting gathering dust. Re-read (after the perfect amount of away time) and edited those stories. In Search for the King It’s…

I have a year long plan. This month is dedicated to writing. If he’d had a choice, Dean wouldn’t have gone to old man Gatson’s, but he hated making his own batteries and there was little argument that the codger produced some of the best. Hopping down from the open-sided bus with a wave at the driver, Dean unslung the folding wire cart from his shoulders and wheeled it across buckled pavement that ran like a moat around the strip mall. I have a year long plan. This month is dedicated to writing. Part 1 of The Trader and the Devil here, part 2 here. It wasn’t terrible. Ahntil made pleasant enough, if tedious, company.  Despite skilful manoeuvring, Harper still hadn’t been able to coax out the other man’s past or what his theories for the computer’s purpose was.  He did find satisfaction in reeling off the trading problems that had led him to getting blitzed and sending his ship into the middle of nowhere. The two men supped from the…

The Trader and the Devil (part 2)

I have a year long plan. This month is dedicated to writing. Part 1 of The Trader and the Devil here, part 3 here. Running the survey course reinvigorated Harper somewhat.  The astrogation system would politely ask to confirm a change in vector or to review findings.  Not that the program needed his input, but it made Harper feel useful.  The parade of orbiting rock was soothing and he spent more time awake, embroidering his dress whites, reading, or watching the stars shift. He stopped counting days, but 243 degrees…
